Los Yesos ( a secretly unexploited gem on the Costa Tropical coastline) now is going to be firmly on the map for education and places of interest to visit. The first phase of the works included the demolition of the old school house (with pupils now relocated to La Mamola) and the erection of a new structure. Following this the completion of the internal layout of the Museum will take place allowing for a new tourist attraction and educational centre for all the types of Flora and Fauna which form part of the local coastline.

However in the coming months further works will be completed on the second phase of the project estimated to cost a 3 Million Euros. These monies will be invested in the restoration of the house of the Casa Nazari.

With these additional improvements the local government hope to attract a large number of school visits from throughout the Province from Autumn to Winter.

The works will commence at the end of February and last for 2 months. Within the budget of 218,000 Euros, 155,000 euros has been provided by the Agricultural Delegation which is a department within the Junta de Andalucia.

The works will cover around 3km of the road from the Barranco de los Olivos until the Aldhayar point. The plan for the improvement will also make the road much wider.

In this area there are 200 agricultors with around 200 hectars of land all of which will benefit from the new tarmac road.

The project, promoted by the hotel operator Banyan Tree Holding, was presented on the 24th September 2010 at a ceremony attended by representatives of the developer, the Ambassador of Denmark in Spain, Lars Thuesen, and the Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan Carlos Benavides.

The resort, called “Bahia Fenicia”, will involve an investment of 230 million euros and will create over 600 direct jobs.

The hotel is to be built near Marina del Este on a surface of 13,000 square meters, will have 200 rooms and 32,000 meters for residential housing, as reported by local sources.

The project has the approval of all authorities and could begin within eight months after completion of administrative procedures, according to representatives of the promoter.

The works have a deadline of two years, so the resort should be completed by 2013. The company maintains that the project is integrated into the landscape and gives special attention and respect for the environment of the area.

With a workforce of 8,000 employees scattered around the world, the chain, Banyan Tree Holdings is one of the largest worldwide in the sector.

The Ambassador of Denmark in Spain, Lars Thuesen, has indicated that a project is “ambitious” made by a company of his country in recent years in Spain, and demonstrates “the interest of the Danes on the Spanish Coast. ”

For his part, Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan Carlos Benavides, considered that the project would mean “a catalyst for the entire tropical coast.”
