The couple who were retired, Chris and Christine Martin were killed whilst visiting a friends house in Rubite. The accident took place on Monday evening at 18.30 at the couples house on the outskirts of Rubite. The owners of the house survived the freak accident due to the fact that one was outside caring for their animals and the other was in the kitchen area making a drink for their guests.

The Martins suffered fatal injuries as a landslide forced the mountain side onto the roof of the lounge area where the couple were sitting on the sofa relaxing and enjoying wathcing the television.

3 Days of mourning have been annouced in both the Martins home village of La Mamola and Rubite where the accident happened.

The funeral takes place on Thursday at 5pm in La Mamola with the ashes being scattered the following day in the sea.

One of the reasons for the delay has been to do with the problems around the Carchuna – Castell de Ferro link. A construction comany was appointed and they had submitted their proposal and tender and this had been approved. However following the excavation work the ground on which the proposed route was planned was found to be inappropriate and was experienced land sliding. 

Therefore new plans were submitted, all amounting to signifcant delays in the commencement of the works.

The new route now is fraut with other difficulties in that it impinges on Protected land and would mean many new embankments, viaducts and more materials which will increase the cost of the Project.

During these 4 months all motorway traffic was diverted onto the old stretch of the N340 motorway giving access at Adra on the Costa Tropical to the existing road.

The projection for the 3 new marinas on the Costa Tropical de Granada will enhance tourism in the  area and boost the berths on the coast to 3,000. 

The new marina for Motril,  is to be constructed on the west of the beach. 

The second of the proposed marinas is in Salobreña, and this is in the advanced stagge of its feasibility study. 

The third is proposed to be somewhere between Castillos de Banos and Castell de Ferro, but all the plans exclude the presence of other moorings on the coast.

The most  awaited opening by the Costa Granada will take place on Thursday 21th, at four in the afternoon, according to sources yesterday linked to the Subdelegation Government. What is  not specified is whether there will be ribbon-cutting and canapés as usual.  

But with official confirmation and  after so many broken promises, people on the Costa Granada need to see to believethat now yeah, it’s historic day in which people may travel from Granada to Motril without the need for cones, traffic jams and deviations via the Alpujarras.

However , La Mamola on the Costa Tropical coastline of the Granada Province is the first village in this area to be connected to TDT (Terrestrial Digital Television) access.

There are initially around 20 channels including TVE1, TVE2, 2HH & Clan, Teledeporte, Telecinco, Disney, Antena 3, La Sexta, no name a few.

The location for this market is in the small village of Los Carlos behind Castell de Ferro which is situated in the Rambla de Lujar.

The new route between Madrid and Granada, which will have four flights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.  With this new route Ryanair aims to increase the number to 60,000 passengers annually transported from the Airport Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaen, since it now offers five international destinations (Milan, London, East Midlands, Liverpool and Bologna) and a domestic in flight service to Gerona.

For this May holiday weekend, the Granada province has recorded a 86 per cent of average hotel occupancy, according to the sector. Zones, like the Alpujarra Valley provides a 85% occupancy, the Altiplano region of 70%, the Costa Tropical to 90%, 85% in the capital of Granada, Guadix and El Marquesado reach 75%, and in Sierra Nevada is expected to reach 90% of hotel beds filled. The forecasts therefore is very promising.
