From May 2011 Ryan Air will be flying to and from Almeria to Brussels therefore making it easier for travellers in Brussels or bordering on the country to make a holiday in the up and coming region. With the introuduction of this route the initial prices appear low, so make the most of the opportunity to book ahead!

Ryan Air also fly into Germany from Almeria.

The new access road consists of the construcion of a number of new supporting walls and has also made the access wider and less bumpy!! Certain improvements were also seriously necessary because of the unusually bad weather during the winter 2009/2010.

The investment in this access was estimated at a cost of 240,183 Euros, covering 571.5 mtrs and employing 10 people in total.

In this project the drainage has also been updated together with the addition of new street signs and lights.

The works will commence at the end of February and last for 2 months. Within the budget of 218,000 Euros, 155,000 euros has been provided by the Agricultural Delegation which is a department within the Junta de Andalucia.

The works will cover around 3km of the road from the Barranco de los Olivos until the Aldhayar point. The plan for the improvement will also make the road much wider.

In this area there are 200 agricultors with around 200 hectars of land all of which will benefit from the new tarmac road.

The scheme assists individuals dependant upon their own financial circumstances. The banks supporting the new development will offer to prospective buyers up to 100% of the purchase price of the property. However should the bank only offer 80% for example, the Junta will offer a “top up” of between 9,000 – 15,000 and finance on this amount will only be paid on half the monthly payments for up to 3 years.

Thereafter, the amount financed by the Junta can be added to the value of the loan. The Junta are promoting the idea that the loan will be no more than an individual would pay for purchasing a Car!

The scheme covers 4,100 properties that are owned by promoters and 13,200 properties that are now owned by the banks.

One of the reasons for the delay has been to do with the problems around the Carchuna – Castell de Ferro link. A construction comany was appointed and they had submitted their proposal and tender and this had been approved. However following the excavation work the ground on which the proposed route was planned was found to be inappropriate and was experienced land sliding. 

Therefore new plans were submitted, all amounting to signifcant delays in the commencement of the works.

The new route now is fraut with other difficulties in that it impinges on Protected land and would mean many new embankments, viaducts and more materials which will increase the cost of the Project.

Saturday 30th May is the day of San Isidro, who blesses each year the land of the area, and natives and visitors alike enjoy the Festival with Wine and tradtional food followed by a Procession, then Mass. 

The place chosen for this event, Albondon, is a charming place with some fantastic scenery, famous for its wines, but above all by the kindness and generosity of its inhabitants.

Albondon can be accessed via Albuñol which is just off the N340 motorway and access has been made easier to the village by the new Albunol bypass after which you take the A345 a short 10 minute drive to the village.

The route gives rise to continuous changing landscapes,  the last greenhouses in the area, hills of almonds, the first vineyards, majestic Cerro del Gato, scattered white cottages, gullies and avenues then part way up passing Cortijo Los Galez before reaching Albondón! “.  At 900 meters altitude in the Sierra de Contraviesa the with stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea.

From the main viewing point at the top of Albondon you can view it in its entirety, among vineyards, boxed between ravines and rolling hills. A total pleasure.

The most  awaited opening by the Costa Granada will take place on Thursday 21th, at four in the afternoon, according to sources yesterday linked to the Subdelegation Government. What is  not specified is whether there will be ribbon-cutting and canapés as usual.  

But with official confirmation and  after so many broken promises, people on the Costa Granada need to see to believethat now yeah, it’s historic day in which people may travel from Granada to Motril without the need for cones, traffic jams and deviations via the Alpujarras.
