Delays to the A7 Motorway Completion

It is expected that the new stretch of motorway which is currently under construction on the Costa Tropical will not be completed until 2011 or perhaps even longer.

One of the reasons for the delay has been to do with the problems around the Carchuna – Castell de Ferro link. A construction comany was appointed and they had submitted their proposal and tender and this had been approved. However following the excavation work the ground on which the proposed route was planned was found to be inappropriate and was experienced land sliding.

Therefore new plans were submitted, all amounting to signifcant delays in the commencement of the works.

The new route now is fraut with other difficulties in that it impinges on Protected land and would mean many new embankments, viaducts and more materials which will increase the cost of the Project.

The Mediterranean with its spectacular sunsets gives life to the town of Motril, with its long, wide and sandy beaches, surrounded by cliffs and wathctowers inherited from the Muslim period. Scanning the blue of the Motril sky, you can find seven beautiful beaches, which stretch from Salobrena to Castell de Ferr. Wide beaches with astounding sunsets and a great variety: Granada Beach is a calm and peaceful beach with only the golf course close by. The Poniente Beach has a long promenade. On Paseo de Balduino you can find plenty of chiringuitos and fashionable pubs, and its has become a popular meeting point for young people. La Joya Beach, between the Penon de Jolucar and Cape Sacratif and the large beaches at Carchuna and the beach of Calahonda, are the most eastern beaches of Motri’s municipal term.
