Japanese Businessmen Come to Granada Province!

A group of 20 businessmen are coming to the town of Montefrio in the Granada Province on the weekend 23rd October 2009. Aside from its attractive monuments, Montefrio has its Jamon, much tastier if cut properly!. To this end, the town has made this weekend home to a number of specialists, expert in the art of cutting Jamon.

There will be a competition for the best cutter and along with the group will be a famous Japanese actor, Hiroyuki Hirahashi, with his aim being to find the secrets and arts of cutting the Jamon. Currently Jamon is the latest craze sweeping Japan with a kilo of Jamon selling for around 350 euros and for this price the pieces of Jamon must be cut perfectly!

The mayor of Monterfrio (Juan de Dios Trujillo) commented “It is important that the people visiting the area learn this technique and take full account of the temperature at which the Jamon should be stored and also how the Jamon should neatly trimmed,”.

For this reason, the Jamon Course has been directed at professionals in the hospitality sector, and provides them with the knowledge of both the nutritional properties of Jamon, different ways of salting, or what is the ideal way to draw the cuts, among other issues.

The aim of this course is then to professionalise the service and highlight the role of a good product. Over the weekend, participants will receive the necessary knowledge about the pieces with which you work, the different types of Jamons and, above all, the ways of differentiating the quality of the Jamon with which they are working .

Another factor will be to aprreciate the importance to have good tools, knives and an adequate support for Jamon.
Both liked this initiative, which its organizers, the Association of Autonomous Montefrío Merchants ‘Diego of Siloam’ and the Municipality of the town. with the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Granada expect extended to other towns in the West.
Parallel to the course, residents and visitors could enjoy all the sliced ham in the day from noon, at popular prices.
